Theory test

Can you take the Spanish driving theory test in English?

Yes. DGT’s current application form lists English as an available language for the common Class B theory test. Select the language on the application or tell your autoescuela before it submits your file. The practical journey, road vocabulary and administration still expose you to Spanish, so English theory preparation should include core Spanish terms.

Spanish driving theory test format: questions, time and pass mark

A Spanish Class B theory exam normally has 30 multiple-choice questions with three answer options. The regulatory baseline is one minute per question, and DGT describes the familiar pass threshold as no more than three mistakes. DGT has described a planned video-question format, but this guide does not establish that it is active at your exam centre.

DGT theory-test results, failed attempts and retakes

Computer-based theory results are normally available from 17:00 on the exam day; paper theory and practical results are available from 17:00 the following day. DGT requires a new application and fee after two failures across the tests. A passed test remains valid for two years, and the regulation generally limits the gap between attempts on the same file to six months.

DGT video hazard-perception questions: what is confirmed

DGT has described a planned video-based question about an everyday traffic risk. Its published format keeps 30 questions with three options, adds the video duration to the test time and allows three viewings before the question is revealed. The source does not give one nationwide rollout date, so confirm local implementation.

Indian driving licence in Spain: validity, exchange and fastest route

For an ordinary Indian car licence, plan to obtain a new Spanish licence: India does not appear in DGT’s complete exchange-agreement list updated 26 June 2026. A qualifying foreign licence is normally usable for at most six months after normal residence begins. A separate, narrow exchange route exists for professional drivers who meet employment and contribution conditions.

Can you exchange a foreign driving licence in Spain?

It depends on where the licence was issued, when you obtained it, when Spanish residence began and which vehicle classes it covers. EU/EEA licences follow mutual-recognition rules. Listed agreement countries can normally exchange eligible private car or motorcycle classes without a test. No-agreement private drivers generally need a new Spanish licence.

Spanish driving licence cost and steps in 2026

The fixed DGT examination fee is €94.05 and covers one application for the theory and practical process with two examination convocatorias. Your real total is higher: add the medical fitness report, any autoescuela enrolment or administration fee, practical lessons, vehicle presentation and another DGT fee after two failures across the tests. Local school prices vary substantially.

Spanish practical driving-test commands: an English learner’s guide

Even if you take the Class B theory test in English, prepare for concise Spanish during lessons and the practical test. Focus on action words, direction, safe stopping and “when possible” qualifiers. You do not need conversational fluency; you need to recognise an instruction without making an unsafe last-second manoeuvre.
