The direct answer
Computer-based theory results are normally available from 17:00 on the exam day; paper theory and practical results are available from 17:00 the following day. DGT requires a new application and fee after two failures across the tests. A passed test remains valid for two years, and the regulation generally limits the gap between attempts on the same file to six months.

When a new examination fee is needed
| Sequence | What remains on the same fee |
|---|---|
| Pass theory first try | No failures used; two practical opportunities remain |
| Fail theory once, then pass | One failure used; one practical opportunity remains |
| Pass theory, fail practical once | One failure used; one practical opportunity remains |
| Fail theory twice | A new application fee is required before another theory attempt |
02
What to do after a failed theory test
- 1
Confirm the official result rather than relying on how the exam felt.
- 2
Write down the topics and wording patterns you remember without reproducing protected live questions.
- 3
Use your practice history to separate rule gaps from translation or rushing errors.
- 4
Complete two fresh 30-question mocks under time before booking again.
- 5
Ask your school or DGT how the remaining attempt and local booking window apply to your file.
03
Protect the two-year pass window
Article 53 of the General Drivers Regulation gives a passed test two years of validity from the following day. Passing the next test restarts the period. This is a safety net, not a target timeline: long practical waiting lists and interrupted lessons can still make a delayed route expensive.
